The Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest welcomes the new year by "illuminating" the building externally, not just for the holiday period, but for the whole year sending a message of optimism during this difficult period. Especially this year, which marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Museum, the facade lighting highlights the architectural shell within the natural environment and makes it a reference point in the night landscape of the village of Sigri.

The Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest is pleased to present its new Website. With new design, modern and attractive aesthetics and enriched content the new website offers multiple possibilities with a user-friendly way of searching and browsing.

The Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest presented the actions of promoting the natural heritage of Lesvos and Lemnos during the International Online Conference on: "The role of Geomorphology in Modern Society" organized by the Committee of Geomorphology and Environment of the Geological Society of Greece, on Wednesday 16 December 2020, with more than 100 participation of scientists, professors of Greek and foreign Universities and young researchers from Greece, Italy, Croatia, Romania and India.

The webinar “Educational activities for the nature of Lesvos" was successfully held, aiming of informing the teachers of Primary Education of Lesvos about educational activities on the nature of Lesvos and the possibilities of utilizing the natural wealth of the island in teaching.

The main purpose of the seminar was the promotion of the biodiversity or the Kalloni wetlands and in general the protected natural areas of Lesvos through the educational activities of the Kalloni Environmental Information Center for students of Primary Education.

A large petrified tree trunk, that was preserved intact with its branches and roots, was discovered the last few days during rescue excavations that are carried out along the road axis Kalloni - Sigri !!!

A few days ago the Kalloni Enviromental Information Center was informed that a young white-tailed eagle is spending a lot of time for the second consecutive winter in Lesvos. The bird carries a special transmitter, which was placed during its care by the Green Balkans - Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre of Bulgaria, and its movements are monitored via satellite.

The White-tailed Eagle (Haliaetus albicilla) is a very large species of sea eagle widely distributed across Northern and Eastern Europe and Northern Asia and in our country is considered an endangered species.
