Educational Program “Volcanoes and Volcanic Fossils of Lesvos Island – Experiment Modeling a Volcanic Explosion”

Sunday July 31st 2022, 10 am

On Sunday July 31st 2022 at 10am, we are inviting young learners to become volcanologists!

Are there volcanos in Lesvos? In the Aegean? In Greece? How do they form, how do they work? What are the phenomena and processes that led to the formation of today’s volcanos and the ‘volcanic arrow’ in Greece as well as the distribution of volcanos across the countries and spaces of the world? These are all questions we will explore with bubbling excitement in this educational activity.

Children will also explore the permanent exhibition spaces of the Museum, tracing the connections between the volcanoes on Lesvos and the formation of the petrified forest. In the end, participants will participate in an experiment simulating a volcanic explosion.

The educational programs organized by the Museum are designed for children of ages 6 to 12 years. The fee to participate is 5 € per child.

For more information or to report interest in participating, you can call the Natural History Museum of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos at 22530-54434, email us at lesvospf@otenet.gr, or book tickets online at www.lesvosmuseum.gr .
