The educational program of the Museum ‘’The Adventures of Little Egelados – Journey into the Earth’’ is an exciting journey into the world of earthquakes for young children and focuses on education and preparation for an earthquake and familiarity with protection measures before, during and after an earthquake.

In the educational program, through the theatrical play, the children travel into the earth, embody roles from the dramatized history of Egelados and experience the earthquake creation and the protection measures.

In the earthquake simulator of the Museum, the children experience the large earthquake of Vrisa in Lesvos as well as other earthquakes from Greece and all over the world and apply the protection measures. The experience of the earthquake movement in the earthquake simulator and the contact with the earthquake phenomenon helps to eliminate the feeling of panic and raises awareness of the need for proper preparation to deal with earthquake risk.

The program includes:

• Discussion on basic concepts such as structure of the earth, lithospheric plates, faults, earthquake, earthquake waves, tsunami, etc.

• Discussion on prevention and protection measures before, during and after an earthquake.

• Participation of children in the theatrical play.

• Observation of real time earthquake vibration recording in the seismograph of the Museum and observation of the active earthquake map of Greece.

• Educational activity of creating an artificial earthquake by the children.

•  Acquaintance with the earthquake risk through the periodic exhibition.

• Participation in the experiential educational activity of simulation of the earthquake in Vrisa as well as earthquakes from all over the world in  the Earthquake Simulator of the Museum and application of the protection measures.

• Recording the findings in the special educational cards.

• Composition of observations, extraction and presentation of conclusions.

• Participation in painting and collage activities.
