Summer Educational Program “Fossilized and Contemporary plants of Lesvos”

New Summer Educational Program

Sunday 9 July 2023, 11 am

The Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest is inviting young curious learners to come to the museum on Sunday July 9th for its summer program “Petrified and Present: Plants on the Island of Lesvos.”

Children participating will study petrified plants as well as plants that grow on the Petrified Forest today. As researchers, they will collect data, make notes, and draw conclusions about climate change over the last 20 million years.

The Program includes:

  • Welcome to the Museum and introduction to the program
  • Walk through basic concepts such as fossil, climate, weather etc.
  • Meeting the plants of the Petrified Forest in the Museum’s permanent collection
  • Research and discovery in the botanical garden of the Museum; Meeting the plants growing on the island today
  • Notetaking on cards (provided by the museum)
  • Drawing of observations and conclusions on climate change

 

The program is designed for children aging 6 to 12 years. For the event to take place, a minimum signup of 5 participants is needed.
