International Summer School on Geoparks

The International Summer School on Geoparks, the main training course of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Program for Geoparks professionals, that takes place every year In Lesvos, begun today with great success. The Summer School will be held online due to the Covid-19 restrictions, from 7 to 20 June, under the theme “UNESCO Global Geoparks and Sustainability”.

The International Digital Course on Geoparks 2021 is co-organised by the University of the Aegean, the UNESCO Chair on Geoparks and Sustainable Development of insular and coastal areas, the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, Unesco and the Global Geoparks Network. It attracts world-wide interest and at the same time promotes Lesvos Island Unesco Global Geopark as a training center and a model for the creation and operation of Geoparks around the world.

The School is attended by more than 250 professionals of geoparks, professionals in the tourism field, researchers, PhD candidates, postgraduate students and University professors from 52 countries around the world !!
