Through specially designed educational activities and with the help of educational material, children become scientists, become familiar with research methods and discover information about fossils, rocks, sea and land geoforms, the great biodiversity of the island of Nissiopi and the gulf of Sigri.

In the educational program ‘’I adopt and protect the Petrified Forest Participate in cleaning and conservation activities of fossils’’, the children are called to become fossil conservators and as the conservators of the Museum , they have the opportunity to clean fossilized parts of tree trunks and leaves from the Petrified Forest of Lesvos.

The educational program of the Museum ‘’Natural processes on our planet. Lets discover the earthquakes’’ is an exciting journey into the world of earthquakes and focuses on training and preparing for an earthquake and learning about protection measures before, during and after an earthquake.

In the educational program ‘’ The secrets of sand: Exploring the sand from the beaches of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos’’, the children become explorers, are equipped with the appropriate equipment and with the guidance of the Museum staff, study sand samples from the beaches of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos.

In the educational program ‘’Volcanoes and volcanic geosites of Lesvos’’, the children are invited to travel mentally millions of years back to the geological past of Lesvos, the Aegean and Greece and to become familiar with phenomena and processes that cannot be directly observed, such as the volcanic activity.

19 million years ago, in the area of the Petrified Forest used to live one of the oldest mammals in Greece, the Lesvos Deinotherium.
