In the educational program ‘’Climate change: I learn about its effects by observing the Petrified Forest of Lesvos’’, the children become researchers and are asked to look in both the present-day and fossilized ecosystem of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos for evidence of climate changes and take action for climate today.

Observing the vegetation of the Petrified Forest in the botanical garden of the Museum or the outdoor Parks of the Petrified Forest and the permanent exhibition halls of the Museum and the current vegetation, they collect information, record them, process them and draw conclusions, about climate changes in the last 20.000.000 years.

 

The program includes:

  • Presentation of a video on climate change today.
  • Discussion on basic concepts such as climate, weather, plant evolution on earth, climate change, etc.
  • Introduction to the Petrified Forest of Lesvos and the fossilized plants with the help of the educational application ‘’Petrified Forest of Lesvos’’.
  • Searching for evidence of climate changex in the findings of the Petrified Forest and collecting information in the permanent exhibition halls of the Museum or the outdoor Parks of the Petrified Forest.
  • Gathering  information in the botanical garden of the Museum.
  • Recording the findings in the special educational cards.
  • Composition of observations and drawing conclusions on climate changes and the contribution of the Petrified Forest to the study of the phenomenon.
  • Presenting conclusions and recording proposals for the climate today.
