Objective: The core objective of this project is to develop and validate an ambient information environment, AVATON, which will allow for interactive navigation within the combined physical-geographical and informational space of the Aegean Volcanic Arc, and act as the individual visitor's guide and apprentice with components of geographic, geological, historical, cultural and tourist information.

Objective: The objective of the present program concerns the utilization of the rich and important collection of the Museum with the aid of information infrastructures and the use of new technologies, telecommunications and information technology for the digitalisation, projection and development of this material. The following will also be developed: the museum’s network gate, a CD-ROM presentation, projection and promotion of one of the most representative monuments for the development of the natural environment in the Aegean, an educational application that will be based on the material that exists in the Museum and will be addressed to students of all ages in Greece and abroad.

"Development of modern methods for geotopes in the management of seismic danger with emphasis on the urban environment of the islands of the Northern Aegean"

Objective: The object of the program is the determination of seismic danger in the region of the Northern Aegean and the management (reduction) of unfavourable repercussions in the urban environment. At the same time, the results of the work will be shared and the public will be sensitized and educated in dealing with seismic danger. The work also aims to sensitize state institutions, executives of region, prefectoral and local government and the P.S.E.A of islands of the Northern Aegean, so that program results are effective.

Objective: The objective of the program is the collaboration of European Geoparks for the growth of geotourism in rural regions through the promotion of common tourist packages, the exchange of know-how and the application of new methods for the promotion of sustainable development. At the same time the participation of local communities in the conservation of their natural heritage is encouraged through the relationship between the Geoparks and local enterprises for the promotion of local products. Program actions also include the exchange of events between the Geoparks (reports, personnel, etc), the development of educational activities geared towards university and school teams, the creation of informative educational material for school teams, as well as the development of promotional and public relations actions such as the Geopark Week celebration, the organisation of agro-touristic Geopark festivals, and the participation in tourist exhibitions.

"European Geoparks: Development of Geotourism in Europe"

Objective: The program aimed at the strengthening of and the collaboration between European Geoparks, with the planning and application of a common strategy for the development of geotourism at a European level. The sustainable management of the geoparks was a principal objective of the program which resulted in contributions to the territorial, economic and cultural development of the regions. The program included educational seminars, meetings, congresses, tours, common publications, organisation of common events and actions in public relations.

Objective: The objective of the program is the completion of the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest. The building installations of the Museum were financed by B KPS (PEP of N. Aegean).
The program includes the following sub-projects:

  • Installation of air conditioning system.
  • Work for promoting and conserving the fossils of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos in the exhibition halls of the Museum and the open-air parks.
  • Special structures and equipment for the presentation of discoveries in the exhibition and remaining spaces of the Museum.
  • Electronic equipment with multimedia.
  • Manufacture of a special permanent shelter in the Sigri Park

Work for protecting the petrified trunks in the open-air parks of the Petrified Forest and the manufacture of special shelters.
