Excavations

Systematic excavations in the Petrified Forest began in 1997 and continue today. The excavations have brought to light important discoveries, which already have been presented in the scientific community and have been published in established international and Greek scientific magazines.

The objective of excavation research is the collection of new elements that concern the composition of fossilized ecosystem.

The new discoveries enrich the exhibitions and the open-air parks of Petrified Forest. The excavation work is organised and overseen by the Director of the Museum Dr N. Zouros and is realised in collaboration with Professor of Palaeobotany Dr E. Velitzelos.
