Celebration of International Day for Disaster Reduction 2018
Lesvos UGG is launching a new program for schools titled “Experiential educational program & simulation of major earthquakes for students for the reduction of the seismic hazard” on the occasion of the celebration of the International Disaster Risk Reduction Day on the 13th of October.
Activities will take place at Lesvos Petrified Forest Museum at SIgri, Lesvos, on the 13/10/2018. An experiential educational activity of simulating large and destructive earthquakes occurred in several places around the world and implementation of the protection measures will take place at the earthquake simulator, while a special temporary exhibition as an educational and sensitization journey on prevention and management of the seismic hazard will occur at its premises in Sigri.

13 October 2012 - International Day for Disaster Reduction

The International Day for Disaster Reduction has been annually celebrated on the 13th October, initiated by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction Secretariat (ISDR) and then globally established. Every year, on that day, activities and events are organised worldwide, aiming to a global understanding of disasters, including natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, storms, landslides, fires, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and to the sensitization for preparedness mechanisms in order to minimize their disastrous effects. A large variety of innovative events are organised by and for children, young people and the broad public, schools and youth networks, teachers, professors and educators, national organisations, scientific institutions, NGOs, mass media, municipalities, companies and private operators.
