European Geoparks Week

One week dedicated to geological heritage, the environment and culture

One week full of events around the Petrified Forest organised each year by the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest in the region of western Lesvos.

The European Geopark Week celebration is a new event (it began in 2003) in which all members of the European Geopark Network participate to promote and advance public appreciation of the unique geological heritage of the European continent.

The visitors in all of the European Geoparks during the celebration week have the opportunity to learn about all the events that are organised simultaneously across Europe, and in this way Lesvos and the Petrified Forest are promoted to the thousands of visitors of the museums and parks that are part of the E.G. Network.

Each year the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest invites friends of the Petrified Forest, visitors to Lesvos and especially young people to come and participate in the various programmed events, to enjoy the outdoors and Lesvian culture, and to get informed on environmental issues and geological heritage.

Besides the programmed events, daily tours are conducted through the permanent and temporary exhibitions of the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest.
